The Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology
Member Of The International Institut Pasteur Network
The Network of Pasteur Institutes annual meeting was held in the period 28-30.11.2022 at Sapienza University, Rome, Italy.
From the Institute of Microbiology, an associate member of the Network, Prof. Dr. Penka Petrova, and Assoc. Dr. Petya Dimitrova took an active part in various discussions dedicated to the opportunities for cooperation, and participation in new programs for mobility, exchange, and training in the Network. They established personal contacts with the President of the Institut Pasteur - Paris Prof. Stuart Cole, the Executive Director of the Pasteur Network Ms. Rebecca Grace, and the President of the Network Prof. Amadou Sall. As a result of the talks, it is expected that the management of the Network, together with the scientific secretaries and representatives of the Pasteur Foundation administration, will visit the Institute of Microbiology of the BAS in February 2023, for the first time in the last decade.
Prof. Penka Petrova introduced the scientific community from the Network to the activities of IMikB. It became clear to all participants in the meeting that the Institute of Microbiology has diverse expertise and several distinguished scientists leading large research groups with impressive achievements. IMikB has a broad horizon for participation in collaborative projects in various areas of microbiology such as metagenomics, human microbiome research, bioinformatics, food microbiota research, and the relationship between diet and socially significant diseases such as diabetes, obesity, and aging. The perspective before IMikB is participation in many future projects, for which the Network and the Foundation are committed to providing funding and co-financing when included in international projects under Horizon Europe. The Institute of Microbiology of the BAS was awarded the "200 Years of Louis Pasteur" Jubilee Medal. The meeting is evaluated as extremely successful and marks the beginning of a new, more intensive period in the development of IMikB as a member of the International Network of Pasteur Institutes.
