ECOMORE 2: the National Restitution Meeting held in Cambodia
 
 
 
 
On February 9, 2023, the National Restitution Meeting of the five years project funded by the Agence Française pour le Développement, ECOMORE 2, was held in Kampong Cham, Cambodia. The objective was to remind to all involved parties the approaches used and to share the results and outcomes of the project as well as tangible recommendations to actors in the field.

Ribosomal RNA: turning a problem into a tool

Five members of the Pasteur Network have published the results of a study on mosquito ribosomal RNA. In addition to the release of 234 complete ribosomal RNA sequences from 33 mosquito species to public databases, the study presents the bioinformatics methodology used to assemble these sequences and assesses the use of ribosomal RNA as a molecular marker for taxonomic and phylogenetic studies on mosquitoes.
 
 
HIV: third case of probable cure worldwide

Forty years after the discovery of HIV in 1983 at the Institut Pasteur, 38.4 million people were living with the virus worldwide in 2021 and only two cases of people being cured had previously been described. The IciStem consortium now presents a new case of probable HIV cure, following a bone marrow transplant from a donor with the genetic mutation CCR5-delta 32, known to provide natural protection against HIV.

ARCANE project, a first publication on antibiotic resistance

In the first publication of the Arcane project, a method based on resistance to ertapenem, a carbapenem antibiotic, was proposed to distinguish Carbapenemase Producing Enterobacteriaceae (CPE) in samples with a very high bacterial load. This method allowed the isolation of 18 EPC, including a type of carbapenemase never detected before in the region.

To implement their scientific strategy, create new scientific synergies and boost the existing ones, the Pasteur Network and the Institut Pasteur support the creation of Pasteur Joint International Research Units (PIU). It is a “Virtual Unit” created for 5 years and brings together research teams belonging to up to three international research institute or university where of at least one belongs to the Pasteur Network.

The annual Pasteur Network PhD call for applications allows to support, this year, up to 7 new PhD candidate and at least 1 per region of the Pasteur Network. Applicants must, in collaboration with their future host supervisor, propose an innovative research project within the scope of the scientific priorities of the Pasteur Network. ISIDORe - Pathogen X call for proposals
Deadline for pre-applications: as long as funding remains available.
 
The ISIDORe consortium supports scientists with an interest in epidemic-prone pathogens, including pathogen X. Proposals must focus on at least one of the priority pathogens (pathogen X, Orthopoxviruses, Non polio enteroviruses, Polio enteroviruses), requires access to at least one of the ISIDORe services, and be aligned with the sections listed on the the calls webpage.
