Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andrey Marchev Presented the "Green Cell Factories" Development During the Scientific Entrepreneurship Forum
The inaugural edition of the SCION Spin-Off Scientific Entrepreneurship Forum brought together scientists, entrepreneurs, investors, and institutional representatives around the key question of how scientific achievements can transition into practical applications and market realization. As part of a dedicated panel highlighting Bulgarian Academy of Sciences (BAS) research developments with a high technological readiness level (TRL), Assoc. Prof. Dr. Andrey Marchev delivered a presentation on "Green Cell Factories" as a sustainable biotechnological platform for producing bioactive products with beneficial health effects. The project is funded under the Recovery and Resilience Plan and is implemented by the Stephan Angeloff Institute of Microbiology – BAS, under the leadership of Assoc. Prof. Marchev.
The research team at the Eukaryotic Cell Biology Laboratory explores the possibilities for sustainable production of pharmaceutically relevant metabolites and bioactive compounds via plant in vitro systems. Among the studied plant species is golden root (Rhodiola rosea), which is the focus of scientific research aimed at obtaining biologically active compounds with potential applications in pharmacy and other sectors.
During the event, the project results achieved over the 18-month working period were presented, demonstrating its high applied potential.
Participation in the forum provided an opportunity to discuss the prospects for the practical application of scientific outcomes, their further technological advancement, and their commercialization on the market.
